"Oppositions"

Paintings by
Eleonora Como and Francesca Gaspari
From 24 October to 19 December 2008
9:00 - 18:00

Opening on 24 Ocotber 2008, at 18:00.

The exhibition by Eleonora Como and Francesca Gaspari entitled “Oppositions” proposes two artistic visions which are different in terms of language but which have similar uses of form and colour. The two young artists frequent the Carrara Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara, Italy and what makes them stand out is the bold way they approach the canvas. In fact, the works of both artists have a strong visual impact with the difference that Eleonora uses a figurative language while Francesca uses a more informal one.

The canvases of Francesca Gaspari show lines, forms and colours which express inner soul, feelings and emotions. Each single stroke is significant, not only to the artist but also allowing for the individual’s own interpretation.

Eleonora Como’s canvasses show realistic female figures represented by strong expressive forms which reflect the soul of the figure, the space surrounding the woman becomes at one with its interior .
These two contrasting ways of viewing art offer a pleasing vision which does not stop at the external reality, two artistic sensibilities full of instinct, equilibrium and thought.

“Animals and Dreams”

Exhibition by Sara Orsi

Sara Orsi completed the Lucca High School of Art in 1998 and currently lives and works in the province of Pistoia. Since 1996 she has taken part in several painting competitions in Tuscany and has exhibited in various art collections, receiving a number of prizes and commendations.

Over the last six years her artistic focus has gone back in time in the search for ancient subjects and tools for the creation of new works of art; painting on handmade paper with natural egg-based pigments according to ancient traditions and techniques acquired from ancient texts such as “Il libro dell'arte” by Cennino Cennini.

The creation of handmade paper is carried out entirely by the artist. Following the methods of ancient paper makers, sheets of paper are created using wood and metal frames. The paper is sourced from pure or recycled cellulose and the sheets are treated with rabbit glue and the finished work is protected with natural resins. The painting is mounted on a jute covered frame. Each art work is carried out entirely by hand, starting from the materials itself such as the paper support and the egg-based pigments.
